Do They Know It's Christmas?????

Twenty years ago Bob Geldof wrote a lttle ditty entitled "Do They Know It's Christmas". He got a bunch of famous singers and musicians together to record it. It was a catchy tune...a bit sappy, but it WAS for the holidays. The thing is, it sold- It sold BIGTIME- like hotcakes, like wildfire, it flew off the shelves. People hoarded multiple copies in the thought that one day they'd be of value (Like beanie babies or cabbage patch kids- both of which you can find at the Goodwill now). The very best part about all this was that proceeds from the sale of the song went to help relief funds for the famine victims of Ethiopia.

Well, twenty years later, it's Ba-aack. Calling themselves
Band Aid 20, Bono, Paul McCartney, Dido and Chris Martin are just a few of the artists who have joined forces to make the current rendition of this holiday "classic". The proceeds of the 2004 "Do They Know It's Christmas" go to alleviate famine in the Darfur region of Sudan.

The 1984 recording was tolerable (It can even still be heard playing overhead in stores during the holiday season). This one is UNBEARABLE. Yet somehow, again, it has made it to the top of the British singles charts selling over 300,000 copies in it's first week of release. The mass media push of this affront to musicianship has had quite a few up in arms. Evidently there is an enormous "ground banner" on one of the fields at Heathrow Airport being used to advertise the single. From the air, this is visible to approximately 190,000 passengers per day. The banner will stay there for the duration of the single's #1 ranking. I guess if it falls to #2 they will have to mow the field...

As backlash, there are websites popping up all over listing ways to "demolish" the single. The websites advocate "buying as many copies as you can afford" (they do think the people of Sudan deserve the proceeds) but then go on to ask that you send pictures of multiple creative ways to destroy the single. Sounds like fun! As the most popular site on this subject Band Aid Dilemma (BAD, for short) states... "Charity. Violence. You know it makes sense."

Thanks to MIKE BOLSER for the heads up on this topic.

Avril Lavigne- New HOOTERS Hottie?

Evidently Avril decided that she wanted to be a Hooters gal for Halloween this year. At one of her halloween shows she came bouncing out on stage wearing the skin tight get-up. Pretty funny- isn't it implied that you need to have hooters to be a Hooters girl?
